Our Team

Nest began with a family – Anand and Alyssa, a neonatologist and a paediatric nurse. It has since grown into a small team of senior clinicians who have each chosen to subspecialise in the care of newborns and children. From neonatology – a paediatric subspecialty requiring additional years of advanced training in newborn intensive care – to advanced practice nursing and paediatric intensive care, every member of our team has focused their career on the most critical and formative years of life.

Associate Professor Anand Ramineni

Consultant Neonatologist & Director

Anand combines advanced clinical expertise in newborn care with extensive experience in clinical education and health management. His work spans the bedside and the classroom, as well as health system design and leadership.

  • Anand was the Gold Coast’s first private neonatologist, a specialist paediatrician who cares solely for babies. After initial paediatric training, Anand completed three years of advanced training in neonatology. He has cared for babies as small as 300 grams and as early as 22 weeks at Mater Mothers’ NICU, Gold Coast University NICU, and the statewide retrieval service at Royal Brisbane and Women’s.

    Anand has spent years exclusively caring for newborns across intensive care, retrieval and clinic settings. He brings this depth of experience to every baby he sees – whether they are premature, unwell, or simply need some extra support. Anand is a Clinical Associate Professor at Bond University, with postgraduate training in Public Health, Health Leadership and Health Management.

    With a positive and gentle approach, Anand takes the time to ensure families feel informed and supported – especially when things don’t go to plan. No matter how big or small the concern, he understands how precious every baby is to their family.

Alyssa Ramineni

Paediatric Nurse & Practice Manager

Alyssa is a paediatric nurse with a background in intensive care, offering families calm, capable support through the early months. Her experience caring for critically unwell infants in high-acuity settings brings a rare depth of clinical insight – paired with empathy, clarity, and a genuine understanding of what families need as they navigate life with a newborn.

  • After completing a double degree in Commerce and Arts, Alyssa transitioned into healthcare, pursuing a career that combined technical skill with meaningful human connection. She retrained as a registered nurse and found her professional focus in caring for critically unwell infants and children.

    Alyssa undertook her nursing training at Queensland Children’s Hospital and worked predominantly in the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit, where she cared for some of the state’s most medically complex infants. This experience in high-acuity environments fostered her clinical approach which is both calm and capable, grounded in empathy and clear communication.

    At Nest, Alyssa draws on her specialised clinical background alongside her strengths in organisation, systems management and family engagement. As Practice Manager, she ensures that families receive timely, coordinated and compassionate care – and that every interaction with Nest is clear, welcoming and supportive.

Associate Professor Max Berry

Consultant Neonatologist

Max brings internationally recognised clinical expertise and world-leading neonatal research to her care of newborns and families. She is both a neonatologist as well as an accomplished clinician-scientist, whose work spans both the bedside and the laboratory.

  • After completing specialist training in paediatrics, Max undertook advanced training in neonatology and has built a career combining clinical care with internationally recognised clinical and pre-clinical research. She is an Associate Professor at the University of Otago, and has led the Centre for Translational Physiology focused on improving outcomes for preterm and medically complex infants.

    Max’s research has been supported by competitive national & international grants, including the Health Research Council, National Institute for Health, Marsden and others. Her work explores how factors such as maternal wellbeing, preterm birth and perinatal nutrition influence lifelong health, and how this knowledge can be applied to improve neonatal care.

    Having recently relocated to the Gold Coast, Max brings extensive experience caring for premature and unwell newborns and is known for her thoughtful, kind and evidence-based approach. She places strong emphasis on clear communication and partnership with families, so they feel informed and supported during what can be an uncertain time.

Jane Browne

Neonatal Nurse Practitioner

Jane is a highly experienced Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP), the highest level of clinical nursing practice in newborn care. With many years of experience in neonatal medicine, Jane is exceptionally skilled in assessing, managing and supporting newborns both in hospital and clinic settings, especially those with complex needs.

  • Jane has cared for thousands of infants and their families during her neonatal and retrieval training at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital and in her ongoing work at Gold Coast University Hospital, where she currently cares for premature and critically unwell newborns across intensive care, special care and postnatal settings.

    Jane’s role bridges nursing and medical care, allowing her to provide advanced clinical assessment, treatment and continuity for babies across both hospital and follow-up settings. She works closely with medical and nursing teams to ensure care is coordinated and tailored to each baby’s needs.

    Jane is known for her calm, compassionate approach and her ability to explain things clearly during what can be an overwhelming time for families. She takes the time to listen to parents’ concerns and answer questions thoughtfully. Deeply committed to family-centred care, Jane works in partnership with families to help them feel supported, informed and confident as they care for their baby.
